This hollow vessel of Tulip Poplar was dyed to a lavender shade at its base, graduating into a rosy pink at the top, which is textured with shallow dimples. An escutcheon ring of Holly at the neck is capped with a Gabon Ebony finial. You can read the story of the tree that supplied this wood in the June 21, 2013 section of the Bowlwood blog.

A hollow vessel of Ambrosia-stained Boxelder. The red color in the body of the vessel is natural, and caused by a fungus introduced into the wood by beetles. Without it, Boxelder would be a rather ho-hum, nondescript wood. The collar is red-dyed Holly.

A burl that completely encircled the small Maple stem it grew on was certainly much more beautiful inside than it was on the outside. Often, Maple burls are not that exciting inside, but happily, this is one of the exceptions. A carved Black Walnut spiraling finial sits atop the hollowed vessel. Semi-gloss finish.
